Up until September 2018, I was a GP specialising in women’s health, a wife and mother to two energetic children, enjoying life to the full, a picture of health. Or so I thought…
Suddenly, life threw a curveball, and my world was turned upside down, with an unexpected diagnosis of stage 3 bowel (colorectal) cancer.
From the moment I heard the words “you have cancer”, I knew I had to change the narrative, turning this negative into a positive. I decided to blog my way through cancer and its aftermath through my social media page @doctorsgetcancertoo, which has since grown into a wonderful and supportive community.
I soon realised I could offer a unique perspective as both a patient and a doctor, coupled with empathy and a commitment to empowering and educating individuals about their health, supporting them along the way.
As time passed, I found the experiences that were coming my way ignited my passion further, and it became part of my recovery and cancer “journey”, taking on more and more exciting roles.
